Capping off a breakthrough year, Malcura have just completed a stack of live shows to coincide with their ambitious new video release, filmed at the iconic Palais Theatre.
Filmed inside St. Kilda’s Palais Theatre, the video is a creative collaboration with Melbourne filmmakers Miki Simankevicius, Darren Vukosinovic and Cameron Zayec; capturing the grandeur and majesty of the Palais Theatre, combined with the energy and intensity of Malcura’s live performance. The song “Palais”, which features on Malcura (2016), was inspired by the band’s spontaneous guest appearance on the Palais stage alongside Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela during their 2015 Australian tour.
Malcura guitarist Josh Voce considers himself pretty fortunate: “We were so lucky to perform on the Palais stage that night with one of our biggest musical influences. We wrote the song Palais the very next day. To go back up there on that same stage and film an entire music video for the song is just insane.”
In a tongue-in-cheek subplot, the video clip offers an alternative retelling of the Rodrigo y Gabriela show, with drummer Simon assuming the role of a theatre usher that dreams of taking the stage with his bandmates.
